At T1D Kids, we understand that caring for a child with Type 1 Diabetes comes with unique challenges, worries, and responsibilities. That’s why we employ child-minders that also live with Type 1 Diabetes, bringing real-life understanding, empathy, and there own lived experience to every family we support.

For added peace of mind, all our workers hold CPR and First Aid qualifications, Working With Children Checks (WWCC), and Police Checks.

T1D Kids was created from my own family’s journey with Type 1 Diabetes.

 Our Story

Hi I’m Suzanne, I founded T1D Kids in 2026 after reflecting on my experience of being a parent of a child with Type 1 Diabetes and all the challenges that brings.

My daughter was diagnosed at just 7 years old after becoming seriously unwell with Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA). She experienced vomiting, stomach pain, weight loss, weakness, and dangerously high blood sugar levels. After being diagnosed by our GP, we rushed to Sydney Children’s Hospital, Randwick, where an incredible medical team acted quickly to stabilise her.

We spent days in ICU followed by time in the ward learning how dramatically life had changed. There is very little time to process the emotional impact of a Type 1 diagnosis because families are immediately learning how to manage blood sugars, insulin, food, exercise, sleep, hypos, hypers, school, work, and everyday life.

Like many parents, I quickly realised Type 1 Diabetes affects the entire family.

Today, she is a thriving young adult who drives, volunteers with the RSPCA, works as a support worker, and studies to become a vet assistant. Watching her grow into a confident and capable young woman inspired the idea behind T1D Kids.

The concept came from a simple conversation about babysitting. Then it clicked — how comforting would it be for families to have a child-minder who truly understands Type 1 Diabetes firsthand?

That idea became T1D Kids.

Our mission is to give families trusted, understanding, and compassionate support while providing parents with peace of mind knowing their child is being cared for by someone who genuinely understands the complexities of Type 1 Diabetes.
